What is this element about?

It is essential that all learning resources are copyright compliant and appropriately attributed. This includes, text, image and multimedia as appropriate.

Why is it important?

This element is about encouraging and engaging with respectful practices. It aligns with the academic integrity of staff and leaners. There are strict copyright standards and regulations in place to keep students, staff and the institution legally safe. It is important to understand what is expected of you and your students across the different domains and formats that make up the learning environment.

What can I do?

Some things you can do include:

  • Include attribution to images in all learning materials including within the online webpages, PowerPoint or lecture slides and other locations such as within Padlet, PebblePad for example.
  • Encourage students to reference and attribute sources using desired referencing conventions.
  • Acknowledge and abide by creative commons licencing requirements – this includes staff and students.
  • Direct students to academic integrity information and academic skills support on your unit online site.
  • Be clear about expectations within assessment guidelines and on marking rubrics as appropriate.
  • Become familiar with copyright expectations and update knowledge as required.
  • Become familiar with developments in technology and implications for instance with developments in AI – such as ChatGPT.
