Change management framework

UNE is undertaking a multi-phased approach to think through, plan for and execute organizational change with key principles of clear communication, visible pathway to success, tight scope, open participation and sustainable solutions.

Adkar Prosci Methodology

The ADKAR change management framework is one of the most well-known and widely used frameworks created by Jeff Hiatt, the founder of Prosci (https://www.prosci.com/methodology/adkar). It advocates a bottom-up approach that begins with the individual and ends with organisational change. The acronym stands for:

  • Awareness of the need for change
  • Desire to support the change
  • Knowledge of how to change
  • Ability to demonstrate skills and behaviour
  • Reinforcement to make the change stick

This model is based on the understanding that organizational change can only happen when individuals change. The ADKAR Model focuses on individual change—guiding individuals through a particular change and addressing any roadblocks or barrier points along the way.

The stages of Awareness and Desire for change have been ongoing at UNE and will continue through the initial 30-unit pilots underway now. This will feed Knowledge of how to implement the broader unit uplift process. Professional development/training and support builds the Ability components which include the key skills and behaviours required in developing the next generation learning ecosystem. Longer term there will be continued Reinforcement of skills and behaviours to take UNE to the next horizon.
